Figure 3.3. The âWhole Airman Conceptâ section on the ACA.
The Air Force Instruction 36â2406 (United States Air Force 2015), which provides details on the purpose of the ACA and instructions on filling it out, refers readers to the sections on writing bulleted statements in The Tongue and Quill (US Air Force 2004), a style guide for air force writers. The Tongue and Quill contains a rich and elaborate section on how to write concise bulleted statements in evaluations, with the overall recommendations being to begin each statement with an action verb (sometimes preceded by an adverb) and to end with the impact. For example: âProcessed over 300 records with no errors as part of the 42 ABW Mobility Exercise ensuring all wing personnel met their scheduled clock timesâ (230). Also in this section, The Tongue and Quill provides a revision heuristic, cautioning raters to check their statements for accuracy and specificity and to edit for brevity and impact (231â235).
The ACA concludes with a section meant to be discussed and jointly completed by the rater and ratee called âKnowing Your Airman.â This section contains reflective questions, as shown in figure 3.4.
